Tenors of the Americas

North American tenor Roy Cornelius Smith is fast becoming known for his voice of great natural beauty with ringing high notes, his compelling dramatic interpretations, and his fine musicianship. Following recent performances of Don Jose in Carmen, the Birmingham News exclaims that he is "A powerful, expressive tenor" and that "he is endowed with a natural, free-flowing technique and reserve strength on the high end." The Wall Street Journal agrees and has lauded "large ringing voice," and "splendid upper register and true Italianate squillo."

He has already been heard on some of the world's great operatic stages including those of the Metropolitan Opera, Salzburger Festspiele, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the New Israeli Opera.

He has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice, Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal and with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra among others.

South American tenor LuisAntonio Gálvez-Alcántara, possessor of a dark, fullbodied lyric voice is a native of Peru. Recent performances include Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Don Jose in Carmen, Bach's Magnificat and Cantata 140, and Handel's Messiah. His recital series included the world premiere of a cycle of 12 songs for tenor by Chicago composer Floyd Thompson which he will be recording next year. In great demand in the concert repertoire, his performances have included Misa Criolla by Ramirez, Verdi's Requiem, Die Sieben Worte Jesu Christi by Schutz, Dubois' Seven Last Words of Christ, Bach's Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland and Schweight Stille, Plaudert Nicht.

Other performances include an array of Zarzuelas; Agustin in Los de Aragon, Javier in Luisa Fernanda, Cantador in La Dolores, Chano in Luis Alonso, and Rafael in La Dolorosa. Mr. Gálvez-Alcántara received the most distinguished award offered by the Association of Peruvian Institutions for his excellence and commitment to the Peruvian community as a valuable contributor to promoting cultural diversity.
